The Merchants of Oak Ridge is a group of local business leaders who work together to develop and promote our businesses, and support our community.

What do we do:

We host a variety of networking & professional development events. We also offer opportunities for showcasing individual businesses, and we provide leadership & support for community events.

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.
— Winston Churchill

The Merchants began in 2003 with Van Tanner & Joe Black meeting @ Bank of Oak Ridge when it was located next to the Shell station. The group grew monthly 4 people - 8 people - 12 people within the first few months. Their first activity was Christmas decor in the Lowes Foods shopping center. It was formalized in the mid-2000s when incorporated as an organization.
